Being injured or ill impacts your overall wellbeing. In addtion to dealing with the physical and emotional pain, if it impacts your ability to play football or work. It can also have a financial impact.
AFRM Claims Advocacy (ACA) is working with the AFLPA to support members who may be injured or ill impacting their capacity to ever play football or work again . We also offer members the opportunity to learn more about their personal insurance, to ensure that it provides them the right cover for their needs - both as a footballer and beyond football life.
ACA has a purpose to improve the wellbeing of members by alleviating their financial worry. ACA can explain how your personal insurance supports you and check if you are owed payments if you have a significant injury / illness and it may be impacting your ability to play football or work ever again. ACA have helped hundreds of clients (families and carers) get an insurance claim benefit payment, and may be able to help you too.
Do I qualify?
If you have experienced a significant diagnosis - such as cancer, or any other injury or illlness which impacts your ability to play football or work ever again - you may be entitled to a personal insurance benefit. Default personal insurance forms part of your AFLPA membership. ACA can help you check whether you can access the personal insurance based on your medical condition.
What personal insurance is available under AFLPA membership?
Personal Insurance intent is to provide financial security to you and your family for events such as a serious injury or illness. Cover includes:
⁞ Total & Permanent Disability – benefit paid if the client is totally and permanently disabled because of their injury or illness and cannot work eg. neurological or cardiovascular disease
⁞ Death claims – the benefit payment is a lump sum paid to the beneficiary upon the death of the client.
⁞ Injury & Hardship Fund– This fund aims to support players who transition out of the game with career ending injuries, and those who need longer-term medical support, or suffer illness or financial hardship through retirement.
⁞ Football Ending Injury Fund – benefit payment if you experience a career ending injury
⁞ Trauma (Optional cover) – the benefit payment is made if the client is diagnosed with a major illness eg. cancer. This is not part of your AFLPA membership, however can be purchased separately.
